It's so interesting to me the way that people describe the 1973 National Book Award. It ranges from Rich just "winning" the award to Rich being a "co-winner" to Rich "insisting that she share the award" to Rich "refusing the award" to Rich "accepting the award, along with co-nominees Alice Walker and Audre Lorde, in the name of all silenced women."
... who is doing the final telling? Who, in fact, decides who wins the award?
