1. "Ebb and flow": what is the future of feminist intervention?

The premise is two things: that there is such a thing as "feminist intervention," intervening in life in a feministy way, proclaiming some political things, or establishing a feminist self or point of view in areas of life.

That there is an "ebb and flow" in the feminist life, and that the waves don't work, are not successful, that the "ebb and flow" needs to be shackled/unshackled from our sense of ourselves as feminists, that we are not serving ourselves or anyone else by thinking in terms of what's "wavelike". The second wave is a limited thing. The ebb and flow is the knowledge, the awareness, that any sort of "wave" is part of a life cycle.

The wave is part of a life cycle. What makes a wave successful? Feminism has a life cycle.

If feminism is essentially a community practice, not a disciplinary practice, then one of the things that I see myself doing is working to establish a bridge between the different disciplines that comprise woman-centered theory.

One of the conflicts within feminist theory—and between the huge gaps between different woman-centered theories—I think has a lot to do with the relation between what’s conscious and unconscious, where desire and longing and day-to-day sensation illustrate the traumas women are obliged to deal with when they think about themselves. What can I do to get tenure? How do I make a living without creating back problems? Women’s practical choices and concerns really shade their experiences of feminisms.

This may seem like a mundane observation but the need for feminism to declare itself accountable to women's lives is essential. yadda yadda.
